Pray for Peace in Ukraine

Блаженны миротворцы, ибо они будут наречены сынами Божиими. Матфея 5:9

"Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called the children of God." Matthew 5:9

Pray for peace in Ukraine! We should be sending humanitarian aide not bombs and missiles!

Rock Mass - Christmas 2022 Edition

Rock Mass

Rock Mass - Christmas 2022 Edition

Peace, Love and Light!
Kevin (Cloud)

The inspiration for creating "Rock Mass" came from the Rock Mass at All Saints Episcopal Church in Pasadena California back in the early 1970’s. On the first Friday night of each month All Saints held a Rock Mass which was a mix of traditional Episcopalian Mass and rock concert. A live band would play popular rock music which couldn’t necessarily be called “Christian” but contained spiritual phrases and references to God or Jesus. During the 1960’s and early 1970’s there was an explosion of these songs coming out of the "secular" music industry way before there was “Contemporary Christian Music”, in a way, it could be called "The Gospel According To Billboard's Top 10".

Where's the Love?

Being right doesn't give you the right to rob another of their rights. Love is the higher law!

Love does no harm to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfillment of the law. (Romans 13:10)

Rock Mass 11-06-2022 - Mid-Term Election Edition

Rock Mass on the first Sunday of the month.

Rock Mass for Sunday November 6, 2022 - Mid-term Election Edition

From my earlier blog post I'm Not Going To Tell You Who To Vote For...

We usually think of paying taxes when we read Jesus’ words “Render unto Caesar that which is Caesar’s” but I would suggest that here in the U.S. we can apply that to voting as well. We have the privilege and I might add a sacred duty to vote. We can’t vote for a perfect candidate, none exists, but for Heaven’s sake please vote.

Most of all I would suggest that no matter who wins in November that we all remember Paul’s words to Timothy:

“Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence.” (1 Timothy 2:1-2)

Go Vote!

Mr. Natural says "Vote!" by R. Crumb

This Tuesday be sure to vote!

Understand the issues, know who the candidates are and remember to get out and vote this Tuesday! This is your only true way to make your voice heard - not "Liking" and "Sharing" on Facebook but actually getting off the couch and participating in our Democracy. It's your right! It's your privilege! It's your duty! But if you ignore it, if you waste it, if you don't exercise it you will have no one to blame but yourself for the way our country turns out! And if you don't get out there and vote, in my opinion, you loose your right to complain about the government! So vote and make your voice heard - or just shut up!

Peace, Love and Light!

Rock Mass September 4, 2022

It's gonna be a bright (bright)Bright (bright) sunshiny day

A new day is coming (ooh, ooh)People are changingAin't it beautiful? (Ooh, ooh)Crystal blue persuasion

So, put your hand in the hand of the man who stilled the waterPut your hand in the hand of the man who calmed the sea

I have finally found a place to liveIn the presence of the Lord

Oh happy day (oh happy day)
Oh happy day (oh happy day)
When Jesus washed (when Jesus washed)
When Jesus washed (when Jesus washed)
When Jesus washed (when Jesus washed)
He washed my sins away (oh happy day)
Oh happy day (oh happy day)

Jesus, he's my friend; Jesus, he's my friendHe took me by the hand; Led me far from this landJesus, he's my friend

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him,
so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
(Romans 15:13)

And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding,
will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
(Philippians 4:7)

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace,
patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
gentleness and self-control.
Against such things there is no law.
(Galatians 5:22-23)

God Doesn't Need A P.R. Man

 Rev Kev Sez:

I used to think that God needed a P.R. man.

Then I took a walk in the Redwoods.

Rock Mass - Woodstock Edition 08-07-2022

Rock Mass on the first Sunday of the month.

Rock Mass for Sunday August 7, 2022

Woodstock Edition

“It was about spirituality, about love,
about sharing, about helping each other,
living in peace and harmony.”
~Richie Havens, the opening performer at Woodstock 1969

In August 1969 the Woodstock Music & Art Fair took place on Max Yasgur's dairy farm in Bethel, NY with over half a million people in attendance. In the midst of all the self indulgent sex, drugs, and rock 'n roll the Gospel could be found at Woodstock.

"Well, I came upon a child of God he was walking along the road..."

"I had a dream last night, what a lovely dream it was, I dreamed we all were alright..."

"I got a telephone in my bosom and I can call him up from heart..."

"There's always a little bit of heaven in a disaster area." Wavy Gravy (Hugh Romney)

"God bless you"

"Oh happy day, When Jesus washed, He washed my sins away"

"...Any day now, any day now I shall be released"

"...Following you I climb the mountains I get excitement at your feet"

"Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound..."

The Theology of Redwoods

I don't think I could ever leave California with the Pacific Coastline, Big Sur, the Sierras, the Redwoods. The Redwoods are such a spiritually renewing experience for me. The massive size, the thousands years of existence, the contrasting reds and greens, the scent... oh the aromatherapy of a Redwood forest!

I don't pretend to understand the mysteries of God and the Universe, but in the Redwoods there is this sense of "deep calling unto deep" that supercedes man's best attempts at theology.

“I didn't need to understand the hypostatic unity of the Trinity; I just needed to turn my life over to whoever came up with redwood trees.”

~ Anne Lamott

Rock Mass on the first Sunday of the Month

Rock Mass July 3, 2022

This Sunday's Rock Mass is more like Rocks and Moss with water Rolling over them. It's about a much needed retreat to a quiet place in the Cathedral of Nature.

And he withdrew himself into the wilderness, and prayed. (Luke 5:16)

Peace,
Peace, Love and Light!

Shine A Light!

Most mass shootings are planned for 6 months to a year. In almost every documented case, warning signs were given off that were not understood, were not acted upon quickly or was not shared with someone who could help. In 4 out of 5 school shootings, at least one other person had knowledge of the attacker's plan but failed to report it.*

How has the ownership of firearms and ammunition become so acceptable that no one questions the amassing of a large collection of handguns, rifles, assault weapons, hundreds of rounds of ammunition and high capacity magazines beyond any rational explanation of personal protection or hunting?

Federal, State and Local gun safety laws are inadequate. Mental health services need to be more accessible. Local law enforcement is highly overburdened. Federal and State criminal databases are poorly integrated.

But the biggest breakdown may not be in our legal system but rather a possible breakdown in society itself. As members of a civilized society we have an obligation to each other to question behavior that could pose a potential threat to others. Shine a light. If you see something, say something!

Therefore, to him who knows to do good

and does not do it, to him it is sin.

(James 4:17)

Peace, Love and Light!
